Quailitha's Story
My birthname is Quailitha Ki'Yar. I was born in a small guard camp outside the Temple to parents Laquatru Ki'Y'ar, a highly favored guard in the DarkElf army, and Salena, a Dark Elf Sorceress and great granddaughter of Takara the Twisted.
From very early on, I was taught the ways of black magic, as every princess of the House of Evil should, and because the mothers camped and often fought alongside their spouses, I learned aslo to fight with a sword (though not well), and saw a lot of blood from Hobbits, Gnomes, Dwarves and Humans who would come and try to defile the Temple in Takara's absence. I also saw the blood of the Forrest Elves, to whom we are distantly related. These were a curiosity to me, because they looked like us, except they were far fairer as if continually bathed in light. That light, was the sun that I had then never seen.
Sixteen was the Age of Testing for every dark elf female, for by then we are old enough to cast at full strength, and old enough to be given in marriage. On 28 Deori's Pleasure, in the year 131, my 16th birthday, I awoke and started to prepare for the ritual. That day was the day I would cast Entrap on my first adventurer, and if I got lucky, it would be a Legend, then I would kill him with the sword. It was also the day that Quailthalas would have my hand, for he had earned the priviledge in HIS day of testing, and was also favored of Vagma. (Only the favoured men were allowed to marry a daughter of Takara, and the daughters didn't have much choice)
So there I was keeping my post, a few locations from the priest my father imprisoned, with the Dark Elf army and their allies, the Hydras and Demons, and Quailthalas at my side. Then came the Adventurers. A hobbit thief, a dwarf wizard, a forest elf sorcerer, a gnome sorceress and an ogre fighter or two. (if you know some of the legends' races and classes, you can figure out who they were). We lay in wait, listening, prepared to ambush them as soon as they reached our end of the tube. We could tell they were young, because they talked too much. The elf came out first, and tried to cast demon fire on us, but I was faster and held him. It wasn't a second later before the Greater Hydra attacked with his own spell. The look of horro on his fair face froze me in my tracks, and the Ogre charged me. I was fatally wounded, but not before I saw that beautiful elf fall also.
My last thought was one of anger and regret, that I could never see the sun that brightened elf faces, that I had to live in darkness with foul, smelly creatures, to marry a man I had no love for. But it was the way of the Terris I knew. I didn't fail in my death, for the spirits of Vagma and Takara restore the souls of their warriors. I failed in my appreciation for the Other Side, for betraying my heritage with a desire to see light. My soul was restored, but Quailthalas would not have me, (not that I wanted him anyway), all knowledge of sorcery was stripped from my mind, and I was sent for two years to purify myself in a cell of darkness. As I was being escorted to the cell, I passed that old priest and he whispered to me, that Alvogyl is the god I should seek to bring peace to my heart.....
Alone in that cell, in the dark, I had many things to thing about. I could still hear parties of Adventurers passing by, laughing with each other, fighting with my race; and the words of the priest echoed continually in my mind.... I had no weapons to speak of, but sometimes I longed to fight like my father. When there was a battle raging, I'd pretend to fight, using my bare hands like a sword, and punching instead of thrusting the blade.
29 Awakenings, of the year 133 was my day of freedom. As Fate would have it, the guards who came to release me were drunk with elven wine. They open the door, expecting a weak and docile woman, but instead they found a young girl driven by a determination to touch the sun. I charged them, easily knocking them over (that's how drunk they were) and ran toward the portal. They didn't follow me.
Wandering all night in a new land, shunning the races whose blood I'd seen shed, avoiding the other hostile creatures as well, I traveled through Dandylose, down the mountain and into a dark forrest. I kept looking for these other elves, but saw none. Every now and then I'd glimpse movement in the shadows, and felt as thought i was being watched. Shortly, I came upon a city under construction. it was deathly quiet, but somehow alive. All of the gates were shut tight, so I moved on. Soon I could hear running water, and quickened my steps. I crossed a bridge and passed a few other villages and creatures, only to find myself on a long widing road along what seems like a vast amount of water. Before the road came into it's last couple of turns, I could see the lights of a very large city. Something in me wanted more than anything to be there, so i hurried along.
At the gate of the city, I approached a guard who seemed for occupied with armour than doing his duty. I inquired of him about Alvogyl, and he pointed in the direction from whence I'd just come. I turned around to witness my first glorious sunrise! Immediately I fell fo my knees, but the guard prevented me. He said that it was only the sun, but that Alvogyl himself was the source of all light, the power behind the sun. I begged the guard to tell me where I might find him. He looked me over, and gave me instruction. "Seek a guild to the north, and speak to the master there. He will help you find that which you seek" With that, he turned me away..
