A Tale of Rawolf

Keraptis says, 'Mitchellx was trying and failing to complete this quest. The number of times he died, no one knows for sure. He tried many ways, employing friends of different classes to help. But each time the result was the same. The eye demon floated away victorious.

'After one such attempt Mitchellx returned to the guild,' Keraptis says, 'Where he came upon an older Monk resting. The Monk introduced himself as Brother Rawolf and they began to talk.'

Keraptis says, 'He asked Mitchellx how he was doing and wasn't surprised when Mitch led him here, and said "This I cannot do." Rawolf smiled and said, "If you would beat this foe then I shall help you."'

Keraptis says, 'Mitchellx led them deep into the forest. And after much searching in it floated in all its evil glory.

'The fight began,' Keraptis says, 'Both monks were injured during the fight. Poisoned and badly injured, Rawolf unpacked Mar'larane pastes and dropped them on the ground. "We eat these to heal," he said. Mitch picked one up and bit into it. The healing restored him and he continued to fight.

'After a while the store had dwindled, Rawolf said "This is not going right, I will stand and let the beast attack me." He advanced towards the demon and stood only defending himself. Mitchellx continued to fight the beast, only the poison coursing through his veins wearing him down.

'There was one paste left on the ground,' Keraptis says, 'Rawolf looked at Mitch and said, "Pick it up and eat for you are near death." Mitch ate the paste and returned to the fray. Eventually he struck the death blow. The demon fell at his feet. As the demon fell Rawolf staggered and fell, he was mortally wounded.'

Keraptis says, 'Fishing into his pack he pulled out one last paste. Dropping it on the floor he told Mitch to take it and eat it. Mitch began to argue, but Rawolf insisted that one of them should live. He insisted with his dying breath as the poison in him took his life. Mitch grasped the paste and swallowed it, just in time.

'Mitch looked down at Rawolf and said, "Today I have learned much more than how to kill an eye demon. I have learned the meaning of being a Monk and the true meaning of friendship." To give one's life so that others may live is indeed something to wonder at.

'From that day on Mitchellx and Rawolf journeyed quite a lot together,' Keraptis says, 'Rawolf teaching in his quiet way. Mitch learning all he could.'
